WLR's hugely successful Radio Drama series Youthquake is back, and kicked off on-air on 21st April. (ICYMI scroll down to listen back)
The 5 half hour radio plays have been developed, and are performed by students from St Augustines college Dungarvan, Ursline Convent, De La Salle college and Newtown school.
The group of students took part in 6 weeks of workshops coordinated by Liam Meagher. Over the 6 weeks the storylines, scripts and language of the plays were teased out, to best reflect what life is like for teenagers in Waterford in 2020.
The plays were then recorded in WLR's state of the art Broadcast centre, which gave the students a unique behind-the-scenes look at how a radio station works and allowed them to have their voice heard on the airwaves.
The plays will be broadcast every Tuesday evening at 6:10pm on WLR, starting Tuesday April 21st. they will then be podcast on our website for you to listen back.
(These plays were written and recorded before the Coronavirus outbreak)

TUESDAY APRIL 21st: Roisin
Roisin is the self appointed leader of the group of friends. She used to date Eoin and when they broke up they remained friends and the group became “the gang”.
The gang all hang out in Jacks garage which they call The Pit.
Roisin, whose parents are quite well off, is going away to France for a month as part of TY and she decides to throw “the party of the year” at her parents house before she goes – one rule, no-one in the pool!
But in the days leading up to the party Roisin discovers something about her family, and her place in it, which throws her world up-side-down and makes her act out on the night of her party.
TUESDAY 28th APRIL; Jack
Jack has been in love with his best friend Martha for years and doesn’t know how to tell her. He decided to skip TY and went straight into 5th year. All he wants to do is leave school and go work with his dad in his garage. His sister died in a car accident years ago and working in the garage is where he feels closest to his dad.
But on the night of the party Jack has his heart broken and ends up fighting with those closest to him.
TUESDAY 5th MAY: Martha
Martha is a girl who knows how to get what she wants. But what she doesn’t want is all this extra attention from the substitute English teacher Mr Breen.
When he starts to slide into her DMs she knows she has to do something about it.
On the night of Roisins party she lets her desires and her selfish actions lead her and she ends up hurting her friends, especially the one person who has loved her all his life.
TUESDAY 12th MAY: Eoin
Eoin is a people pleaser who just goes along with what every one else wants. This has landed him in a messy love triangle that he doesn’t even know if he wants to be in.
He is also being bullied by a group of 6th years and the frustration that has been building for months eventually erupts on the night of Roisins party with tragic consequences.
TUESDAY 19th MAY: Ciara.
Ciara is the mother of the group who is always there to listen to her friends problems and give them advice. But does anyone ever think about what she wants? She spends the night of Roisins party running around after everyone else but when it all becomes too much for her she makes a decision that changes all of their lives forever.
