Waterford River Rescue and Waterford Fire Service retrieved a casualty from the River Suir this afternoon who has been taken to UHW.

At 16:02 today the Irish Coast Guard activated the pagers of Waterford City River Rescue.

The incident involved a person in difficulty in the River Suir.

Waterford City River Rescue and Waterford City Fire Service responded to this incident.

The causality was successfully retrieved from the water by WCRR and Waterford City Fire Service.

An Garda Síochána were also present at the scene.

The casualty was handed over to Waterford Ambulance Station and transported to University Hospital Waterford.

In a statement, Waterford River Rescue said: "We wish the person involved a speedy recovery. Thank you to everyone involved.

"We would like to reiterate the absolute importance of an early call to the Emergency Services for water incidents so the relevant services can be dispatched promptly.

"Please remember if you see anyone in difficulty on our Lakes, Rivers or Coast, Call 999 or 112 and ask for The Irish Coast Guard who will dispatch the services needed to the scene, Do not assume somebody has already made that call," they said.
