1. Biden sworn in as US president
Joseph R Biden has been officially sworn in as the 46th president of the US, in a very different ceremony due to Covid-19. Waterford man Dan Mulhall, who is the Irish ambassador to the US, was one of only a few thousand people who attended the event (below). Meanwhile the new president is set to make a stopover at Shannon Airport on his way to England for the G7 summit in June.

2. 45% drop in Covid-19 cases in Waterford in one week
864 new cases were diagnosed in Waterford between the 10th and 16th of January. That’s down from a high of 1,599 cases the previous week (from the 3rd to 9th of January).
3. St Patrick’s Day parade in Waterford cancelled
Waterford Council has officially confirmed that the parade will not go ahead in the usual format due to Covid-19 restrictions. They say that a decision on a re-imagined format will be made over the coming week.
4.Plan for former Waterford Crystal site expected in the Spring
Senior Planner with Waterford Council Liam McGree said “We’re working with them now to develop a masterplan for the development of the entire property. The work’s going very well on that and we hope to have something to bring back to council in the Springtime”.

6.Irish actress Eve Hewson stars in new Netflix drama "Behind Her Eyes"
Eve Hewson, the daughter of U2 frontman Bono and his wife Ali Hewson, is to star in new Netflix thriller "Behind Her Eyes" which drops on the streaming service on February 17th. Based on the best-selling book by Sarah Pinborough the story follows Louise who begins an affair with her new boss David and matters take an even stranger turn when she’s drawn into an unlikely friendship with his wife Adele (Hewson).
