1. Phased re-opening of country - Gyms & hairdressers open from next week

A phased lifting of the Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions during December is expected to see retail, hairdressers and gyms opening first with restaurants having to wait until later in the month. Its expected that the public will be asked to limit mingling to perhaps one main gathering during the Christmas period.

2. Legislation to criminalise non-consensual sharing of images

Cabinet has approved new legislation to criminalise the sharing of intimate images without a persons consent. Under the new laws, someone may be jailed for up to seven years if they have published abusive material with the intent of causing harm.

3. Waterford man missing in Co Offaly

Gardaí are seeking the public’s help in tracing the whereabouts of Pat Walsh, 54 years, who is missing from the Birr area, Co. Offaly, since Sunday the 22nd November 2020. Pat, who is a native of Kilgobinet in Co.Waterford is described as being approximately 6 foot, with Grey hair and is of large build.

4. Concern over horses grazing in Kilbarry Cemetery

A Waterford city and county councillor has said a situation whereby up to a dozen horses are regularly grazing in Kilbarry cemetery is “greatly distressing”. Speaking to Damien Tiernan on Deise Today, Cllr Jason Murphy said the situation was causing distress to family members of people buried in the cemetery.

5. School tells students not to wear tight-fitting ‘distracting’ PE clothes

Students in a secondary school in Co Carlow have been told by teachers not to wear tight-fitting clothing to PE, as it is distracting for staff. Presentation College Carlow spoke to all female students in their year groups last Friday and asked them not to wear leggings or tight bottoms

6. 62 million households watch "The Queens Gambit"

Netflix have revealed viewing figures for their original series "The Queens Gambit" and 62 million households streamed the series in its first 28 days, making it a record for the network. The programme, which tells the story of an orphaned chess prodigy during the Cold War era, also featured in the top 10 programme rankings in 92 countries, according to a tweet from Netflix.
