1. Johnson & Johnson postpones rollout of vaccine to Europe

The company is to “proactively delay” the rollout of its Covid-19 vaccine after six cases of a rare type of blood clot were reported. It follows the recommendation yesterday that the Astra Zenaca jab only be administered to over 60's. Waterford woman Lisa Ryan in her forties who received her first AstraZeneca vaccine last week said its clearly a “guessing game” as to what happens now.

2. Man arrested in connection to alleged fraudulent activity and bribes

Gardai carried out searches earlier this year in Waterford, Dublin, Wicklow and Meath where files and electronic storage devices were seized. He was reported by his former employer on suspicion of falsifying records and deceiving applicants into believing he had processed their financial applications.

3. West Waterford woman takes legal action over hotel quarantine

Mr Justice Brian O’Moore was told that if Emma Kelly latest test for Covid-19, taken earlier today is negative then she will be allowed leave the Crowne Plaza Airport Hotel in Dublin where she has been in quarantine since she came home from Dubai on April 3rd. Ms Kelly, the court heard, had come home to support her mother after her father, who is scheduled to undergo major cancer surgery.

4. Fears planning regulations could decimate rural communities

Waterford Council is currently forming the county development plan for the next five years, however it must tie in with the national planning framework, which seeks to limit rural development. Ardmore-based Tom Cronin says farmers’ children won’t be able to build on the family land in the future and it would “split families”

5. Gatland names all-new line-up of assistants for Lions’ tour

Warren Gatland insists the British and Irish Lions will benefit from “new voices and a fresh perspective” after naming three assistants who will be making debut tours as coaches.

6. Duke of Hastings in The Munster Bar??

It was announced today that Netflix hit show Bridgerton has been renewed for a third and fourth season, before the second season is even finished filming. However there will be no return for The Duke of Hasting played by Rege-Jean Page, or Nasty Nigel, played by Waterford actor Jamie Beamish. Jamie told Geoff Harris that he keeps getting questioned about when Rege-Jean will be in The Munster Bar! Hear the full interview on tonight's On The Fringe programme just after the 6pm news.
