The trial of a woman accused of murdering a child in the south of the country will take place in Waterford this September. The woman, who cannot be named, is charged with murdering a 2-year-old on the 5th of July 2019.

Waterford TD Matt Shanahan wants the Chief Medical Officer to appear before a Dail committee to explain his stance on antigen testing. NPHET has been wary of the tests despite numerous experts endorsing them.

A Waterford priest said they “greatly regret” any inconvenience caused to local families by changes to date for First Holy Communions and Confirmations. Fr Liam Power who is PP of St Joseph and Benildus parish in the city, said he’d appeal to parents to make allowances for the fact that we are in a pandemic and the church is doing its best to keep everyone safe.

From September, Killea Boys’ National School and the Light of Christ Girls’ School in Dunmore East will operate under the new name of Réalt na Mara National School. The Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has defended fans who booed the Irish team for taking a knee before their friendly game earlier this week. The custom is a protest against discrimination and racism however Mr Orban said the move was a provocation. He said he had no sympathy for "this kneeling business. I don't think this has any place on the pitch. Sport is about other things."

There may not have been the most perfect weather conditions in Waterford this morning to view the "Ring of Fire" solar eclipse but well known local photographer Noel Browne managed to capture the phenomenon. The event took place this morning when the moon passed in front of the sun, from the viewpoint of our planet. While photos of the event appeared from all over the world, here in Waterford the rain clouds made it hard to see. But Noel is a patient man.
