1. Cartamundi Waterford confirms Covid cases

Cartamundi in Waterford City has confirmed that a number of staff members have tested positive for Covid-19 over the past few days. The company produces games and playing cards.

2. Second vaccine 94.5% effective, as Waterford Covid numbers rise

US company Moderna has confirmed that its experimental vaccine against Covid-19 has shown to be 94.5%  effective. It comes weeks after an equally successful trial by Pfizer. Meanwhile Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan has expressed concern about a number of trends with Covid 19 after 21 new cases are announced for Waterford. The county now has the 3rd highest incidence rate in country.

3. Takeaway pints could be stopped

Taoiseach Michael Martin has said the government will be reviewing the selling of takeaway pints from pubs following a number of instances of people congregating in defiance of public health guidelines over the weekend.

4.Construction underway on €3m ‘Smart Work’ locations in West Waterford

Construction will start in the next fortnight on four ‘Smart Work’ locations in West Waterford. It’s hoped these office spaces will encourage people to live and work in the Blackwater Valley Economic Development Zone.

5. Waterford draw Clare in All Ireland quarter final

Waterford have drawn Clare in the All Ireland quarter final after losing out to Limerick in the Munster Final yesterday. A hard-fought game saw Liam Cahill’s men embody his mantra of hard work and never give up attitude. However it was not enough as they went down to Limerick 0-25 to 0-21. The Clare game will take place on Saturday at 3:45pm with live coverage here on WLR with thanks to George Corbett Skoda.

6. Hollywood duo buy Welsh football club

In one of the most random pieces of football news so far this week (yes we know its only Monday!) Hollywood big wigs Ryan Reynolds ("Deadpool") and Rob McElhenney ("It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia") have purchased Wrexham Football Club. The Welsh club is one of the oldest professional football teams in the world. The pair made the announcement in a video in which they thank the supporters trust and sponsors Ifor Williams.
