The Managing Director of a Waterford City nursing home says they're devastated to have two positive cases of Covid-19 among their staff.
It emerged this morning that cases among staff have been confirmed at both Havenwood and Killure Bridge Nursing Home.
Three staff members, two at Havenwood and one in Killure, were diagnosed on Friday night after routine serial testing took place.
The required measures are now in place at both facilities.
Havenwood Managing Director is Padraig Dolan. He spoke to Damien Tiernan on Deise Today:
Padraig Dolan said this is the 12th time they got swabbed.
"Nursing homes are tested every two weeks, all our staff are tested."
"Last Thursday, we would have submitted our samples to the HSE for testing and on Friday night we got the bad news that two of our staff members were positive. Two staff members that don't even have contact with each other, one works day-time, one works night-time and they never cross over so it was devastating news."
Havenwood put their containment, contingency and isolation plans in place over the weekend and Padraig Dolan said: "things are working well at present."
Padraig Dolan explained that six members of staff are considered close contacts and are self-isolating.
He said that ten residents are considered close contacts.
"They were tested on Saturday, six tests have come back 'not detected' which is great news and we're just waiting for four more to come through."
