Lack of Waterford Representation in New Cabinet - Deise Today Monday 29th June

There has been anger expressed at the lack of any representation from the South East in the new cabinet following the formation of a coalition government over the past few days. There were lots of surprises in the new cabinet including the promotion of Green Party Senator Pippa Hackett to a "super-junior" Cabinet post, three ministers from Cork and 6 from Dublin. Maria McCann is joined in studio by Waterford government TDs Mary Butler of Fianna Fail and Marc O Cathasaigh from The Green Party who discuss their disappointment that a Waterford person is not sitting at the cabinet table.

WIT law lecturer and political anorak Dr Jennifer Kavanagh gives her analysis on the new government, the historical aspect of the civil war parties in coalition, and the rotating Taoiseach.

Today is a big day for many businesses who re-open their doors after months of closure. Maria speaks to Daneille Kennedy, owner of Lloyds Hair Salon.

Another Waterford business that is re-opening today is The Dunmore East Adventure Centre. Owner Karen Harris tells Maria they are delighted to have children back out on the water.

Maria also speaks to Clifden Foyle, owner of The Strand Inn and Artform art school in Dunmore East, as well as The Riverside Cottage on The Dunmore Road. He talks about the apprehension and excitement of re-opening businesses today.

July 1st is CAO Deadline. WIT has been running online open days for students over the past few days and today Maria is joined by John Power and Claire Holden, school liaison officers with WIT.
