Assessing the Damage Done by Storm Ellen - Deise Today Thursday 20th August

Storm Ellen hit the country overnight, leaving over 1,800 homes in Waterford without power. The West of the county was the worst hit with areas like Ardmore, Tallow and Kilmacthomas badly affected. We assess the damage done by the storm on today's show. Damien is joined by Sinn Fein councillor Conor McGuinness and asks should Waterford have been included in the status red alert.

Damien also speaks to a listener who is recovering from breast cancer. She is upset at the recent restrictions as she has had to cancel a planned staycation. She believes that there should be fines introduced for those who break lockdown rules.

Damien also hears from Siobhain whose daughter found a lump on her breast in March. She is still waiting on a mammogram and Siobhain is anxious about her daughters diagnosis.

Reporter Anthony McFeely has the latest on the breaking news story that a case of Covid-19 has been reported in Sanofi in Waterford.

And the principal of De La Salle school, Margaret Betts, tells Damien how they are preparing to re-open next month.

Damien is joined in studio my Waterford TD and Minister of State at the Department of Health with responsibility for Mental Health and Older People, Mary Butler. She discusses the recent rise in Covid-19 numbers and the reasoning behind the re-introduction of some restrictions.

Michael Breslin from Sheridans Garage tells Damien how many people are coming into their shop not wearing masks.
