Building sites in Waterford to re-open - Deise Today Thursday 14th May

Phase 1 of the roadmap to re-open the country begins on Monday and includes the re-opening of building sites. On todays show Damien speaks to Waterford developer Noel Frisby from Frisby Homes who has 2 sites opening next week. His company built over 100 houses last year and he expects they will build as few as 40 this year.

Car dealerships are also due to re-open. Damien speaks to Tom Murphy form Tom Murphy Car Sales about the impact of Covid-19.

An employment expert has warned that women will be the "collateral damage" of the Covid-19 crisis with new mums among the hardest hit. Damien speaks to Richard Grogan, solicitor and employment law specialist who says problems around maternity rights are already “endemic” in Ireland, women are now being “abandoned in their droves” by both employers and government.

Opticians are another business that is due to re-open on Monday. We hear from Garvan Mulligan, owner of Specsavers in Waterford whose company developed RemoteCare video or phone consultation service. They have also reported an increase in DIY related mishaps causing eye injuries during lockdown.

A childcare plan for healthcare workers, which was due to be rolled out from Monday, was due to help nurses and doctors go to work and have their children minded. But it’s been cancelled because only six childcare providers signed up, out of a potential 5,000. Damien speaks to Regina Bushell from Seas Suas.

The majority of clubs in the Waterford District and Junior League have voted in favour of scrapping the existing season. Damien hears from the secretary of the league Martin Flavin.

Waterford entrepreneur and App developer Jordan Casey has details of a new App he is designing to adapt to the current situation. Table Pay is a service where customers can order and pay for food and drink and have it delivered through the app.

And Agnes O Donoghue, administrator for St Michael's Hall Ballyduff talks about how important the hall is to the community and the steps they re taking to try and re-open it.
