We love spending time with our families over the festive period. But with the lack of routine and with everyone at home on top of each other, it can be hard to keep the peace. So jump in the car, stick on one of our podcast recommendations, and leave the world, and your family, behind with these binge worthy podcasts...

Blackrock Boys: Siblings Mark and David Ryan experienced continuous sexual assault on and around the grounds of Blackrock College in South County Dublin from the ages of 12 to 17. The Holy Ghost Order group, currently called the Spiritans, who co-manage Blackrock College with lay staff, was the source of their abuse. David and Mark suffered from abuse regularly on Blackrock campus property in the 1970s and early 1980s. These incidents took place in the campus library, swimming pools, and other buildings. Before news of clerical child sex abuse dominated the headlines in early 2002, Mark and David remained silent about their abuse for a long time. As a result, the brothers told their parents about the assault, before telling one another.

Redacted Lives: The Journal's six-part documentary series Redacted Lives reveals the truth of mother and baby homes in Ireland, including what transpired there and how the government still refuses to provide survivors with information, appropriate compensation, and control of their honest accounts. At last, individuals can express themselves using their own language and voices. Voiced by Órla Ryan and produced by Sinéad O'Carroll and Nicky Ryan.

Ghost Story: Veteran journalist Tristan Redman doesn't think ghosts exist. However, strange occurrences took place in the bedroom he slept as a child. He is curious when, years later, he learns that the ghost of a faceless woman had visited others who lived in the same house. It so happens that Tristan's childhood home happened to be next door to the house where his wife's great-grandmother, Naomi Dancy, was shot twice in the face and murdered in 1937. Is there any possibility that the murder and the ghost are related? After deciding to look into it, Tristan finds himself asking questions no one wants to discuss and venturing into areas no son-in-law should go: extensively into his wife's family history.

The Troubles: A great deal of people presently are unaware of the Troubles, an era in Northern Ireland's history. This podcast examines every strike and incident that took place over the 30 years in detail in each episode. The information at hand and the personal accounts of all those concerned are the sole topics that are discussed in this nonpartisan podcast. Excellently crafted, meticulously studied, and engaging. Among my all-time favourite podcasts. Outstanding research is done by Oisin, who presents complex and sombre information in an objective stimulating manner.
