Wildcats endure disappointing loss to end Champions Trophy playoffs

The Waterford Wildcats had hoped to make it back-to-back wins over Galnmire, and in doing so, claim a place in the Champions Trophy final.

Sometimes things don't go according to the plan however, and after the Wildcats upset the odds to beat the Cork side in the final league game of the year, the hosts were dead set on making amends.

Their celebrations had been tainted somewhat two weeks ago when Waterford caught Glanmire cold to hand them just their second defeat of the campaign.

On Sunday, Glanmire trailed Waterford by 2 points at the end of the first quarter, but once the second quarter began they took a grip on the game that they refused to relinquish.

The scores for each quarter tell the story of the game.

Q2 Glanmire 23 - 16 Waterford.

Q3 Glanmire 29 - 10 Waterford.

Q4 Glanmire 20 - 17 Waterford.

FT Glanmire 94 - 67 Waterford.

While Jasmine Walker (22), Sarah Hickey (14) and Karli Seay (12) did what they could to reduce thew deficit, the home team had too much too offer and once again stamped their authority as the most dominant side in the game this past decade.

That result 2 weeks ago likely played some part in having the Cork outfit at boiling point just before throw in, and while Waterford were able to turn them over in the league, this knockout game was a different story with the defending champions refusing to be denied of their place in the decider.

It marks the second year in a row that the Wildcats have bowed out at the semi final stage.
