Eddie Nolan has extended his contract with Waterford FC, ahead of the 2023 season starting next month.

The 34-year-old centre back returned to Waterford in 2021, after spending the previous 15 years playing in England and Scotland.

He also earned himself three international caps for the Republic of Ireland during that time.

Nolan told WaterfordFC.ie that he is "delighted to have signed a new contract with my hometown club.

"We all want promotion and getting the club back to where it should be is our aim for 2023.

"The gaffer [Danny Searle] is putting together a really competitive squad. I'm really happy to be part of that and I can't wait to get the season going."

Meanwhile, Waterford FC were victorious in the second of their pre-season friendlies on Tuesday night.

They faced Tramore AFC in Graun Park, where the final score was 3-0 to the Blues.

All three of the goals came in the first half with Liam Kervick, Roland Idowu, and Giles Phillips the scorers.

Danny Searle's side's next outing is this Saturday (January 21st) when they take on Midleton FC in the Munster Senior Cup.

That one kicks off in the RSC at 2pm.

Waterford FC then fly to Dubai for a training camp and return to face Cobh Ramblers in Ardrath Park, Youghal on Tuesday January 31st at 7.30pm.

Shamrock Rovers are the next test for Searle’s side on Saturday, February 4th, at 12noon in Roadstone, before the Blues finish pre-season at the RSC on Friday, February 10th, at home to St Patrick’s Athletic at 7.45pm.
