Waterford will be hoping that a win over Wexford this weekend will be enough to re-ignite their Championship hopes after losing in the opening round.

1.11 to 0.12 the full-time score from Walsh Park with Waterford now second-bottom in the table.

Wexford are up next in Walsh Park, but they find themselves worse off and below Waterford on points difference.

Following the Dublin game, the manager Derek Lyons spoke to Tomas McCarthy.

Thoughts after the final whistle

"It's a huge disappointment. Simple as. We came here today well prepared with everything right, we had a full selection available to us and at home in Walsh Park where you want to be for your first game."

"Really disappointed we didn't come away with the result. It just wasn't good enough. We didn't perform well enough for long enough. To be fair to Dublin, they came out in the second half and really really dug in to hold out for a good win."

"We thought at halftime, that even though we gave away that penalty - and we were disappointed in that as well - even with the goal, there was just a puck of a ball in it. We got that crucial score before halftime to make it three points. The wind is never going to win a game for you, but you would feel a little more confident when you have that at your back. "

"We got a purple patch of ten minutes with possession which we didn't translate on the scoreboard, and I think that was probably the phase that had we gone one or two points up, it might have weakened the resilience of the Dublin defence."

On the debated Aisling Meagher point and Clodagh Carroll's second yellow card

"The umpire gave it wide, and the linesman on this side McAllister - a strong connection with Dungarvan - decided to give the point for Dublin. That's his call.

In relation to the second yellow for Clodagh. I couldn't believe it. I really couldn't. You see a girl being pasted to the ground, getting fouled, and then she gets sent off. Most peculiar. It didn't surprise me with the way the performance was going for the referee today. Talking to people after the game, I just couldn't believe the way some of the decisions went today."

Is next Saturday a must-win game against Wexford?

"Today was a must-win game. We bitterly needed to win this game today. These are the teams we need to fancy to beat to try and progress in the Championship. There's no hiding behind, we've never hided behind the fact that we needed to win today.

The only thing that's gone in our favour is that Clare have drawn with Tipperary in our group - that will mean both of them are on one point.

We'll have to win next week. We know who we're playing next week. Wexford already beat us in the league semi-final, so we'll have to correct that."
