Three birdies at the 10th, 13th, and 16th marked a turnaround for Waterford's Séamus Power at the Augusta Masters yesterday.

The Touraneena man has made the cut for the weekend after carding a 74 for the second round, going into the clubhouse on 4 over par.

Scottie Scheffler leads the field on eight under.

It's tough going out there

The swirling wind on the course at Augusta proved problematic for many yesterday and Power says it made for a nerve-wracking round:

"You're just making bogeys and you're like, 'I'm not really sure what just happened there...' You think you've made a good shot and it just hits the wrong slope and comes up 4 or 5 yards short, 4 or 5 yards long, and you've got 45 feet.

"It's tough. Down around the lower part of the course, 12 was a perfect example. I've heard guys talk about it the way the wind swirls.

"Patrick Reed was in front of me - he had the eight iron. We iron similar distances. But he hits his eight iron about 135 yards into the water so I was like, 'Ok. I guess I'll have to flight it down a little bit.'

"And it just went straight over a pin, carried straight into the back bunker to make a four. You know, it's tough going out there."

You just do your best and hang in there

Having at one stage been at +6, Power says he was delighted to make it back on +4, knowing of course that he has an uphill battle for remainder of the tournament.

The world number 41 told reporters that of all the 74s he's shot in his life, this one felt pretty good, especially considering how the windy conditions hampered him:

"The whole back nine... I slightly came out of a tee shot on 13 and besides that I don't think I missed a shot and I was still lucky to only shoot one under.

"That's the sort of test it is out there today. It's just tough. You're trying to do your best to commit to lines but then the wind does funny stuff.

"You see the guy in front of you doing weird, different things and it's just... you do your best and you hang in there. But it's up there."

Séamus Power is due to tee-off for the 3rd round at 3.40pm today.
