Despite a season's best run, Thomas Barr has failed to qualify for the final of the men's 400m hurdles at the Tokyo Olympics.

The 29-year-old came fourth in his heat, which included the world record holder, Norway's Karsten Warholm, with the Ferrybank AC man coming in at 48.26 seconds.

However, given that there were faster times in the other semi-finals, Barr's time is not fast enough to qualify for the final on Tuesday.

It's been a case of 'what if' for Team Ireland in Tokyo today, with Rhys McCleneghan finishing 7th in the pommel-horse final following a slip mid-routine. Rory McIlroy was unfortunate to lose out in a 7-man playoff for a bronze medal in the men's golf, while boxer Kurt Walker lost out in his medal match. Earlier, Aidan Walsh was forced to withdraw from his semi-final owing to an ankle injury.
