Even though the championship is just three weeks away, Dan Shanahan thinks that Waterford and Wexford will be going all out in Sunday's league semi final.

"Both teams want to win this. People say that 'you don't take league seriously', you do when you get to the knockout stages because there's a trophy at the end of it. Another game whether it's against Cork or Kilkenny. Whoever wins the league, it will bring them into the championship brilliantly. This game is massive for both teams."

Wexford won all five group games as they got the better of Limerick, Clare, Galway, Offaly and Cork. "I've been very impressed by Wexford. Are they peaking too early? I don't think they'll care if they win a league.  At the end of the day, it's one of the top three trophies."

The Lismore man had plenty of tough battles against the purple and gold over the years. "I came up against most of them. The likes of Ger Cushe, Liam Dunne, the Guineys, Darragh Ryan. Beasts of men! Fenlon at midfield gave me seven stitches across my forehead! The toughest man to mark was Liam Dunne. He wasn't the biggest man but by god could he swing that hurley."
