Children and adults of all experience levels are taking part in the 50, 100 and 160k lengths.
Event organiser Johnny Brunnock told WLR sport that he was very happy with how the cycle is progressing.
"There's loads of children and families who are taking part in the 50k event," he said. "Despite the rainy conditions, they've all gone out, looking for a challenge."
John Treacy of Sport Ireland said that there's a growing culture of cycling in the county and paid tribute to the impact of the Waterford Greenway.
"There's a distance for everyone and it's great to just get out and have a cycle."
