Seamus Power has seen his life-changing season on the PGA Tour come to an end.

The 34-year-old Touraneena man needed to remain in the top 70 of the FedEx Cup standings following the Northern Trust to make it into Thursday’s BMW Championship. Power narrowly missed out, largely down to a bogey on the 18th hole, finishing in 72nd in the rankings.

Had he made par, it would still have been every bit as agonising as he would have missed making next week by just a solitary point.

For the tournament itself, Power finished T31 at -8, -2 for his final round, taking home a cheque for $48,925. West Waterford native Power is 117th in the latest world golf rankings.

This tournament was won by Tony Finau, who saw off Cameron Smith in the fourth hole of a play-off. Ireland’s Shane Lowry finished T11 at -12 having been in contention earlier in the day.

Seamus Power spoke with Sky Sports after his life changing season came to an end. Winning the Barbasol Championship means Séamus can now play for the next two years free of any tour card worries.

“For me there was nothing to lose and only to gain. I didn't quite gain enough. I just didn't have my best game and that's what cost me. It's a strong field. Guys were making birdies all over the place and I wasn't able to get it close, on the last, perfect example, I just needed a good iron, it wasn't there. It is what it is. I gave it my best. The bogey at the last is disappointing, but in a few days I'll be feeling better about it.”

“It was great. It was my second time in the Playoffs, and really my first time with a chance to advance to the penultimate one. So, it was different for me. These are the fields you want to be playing in. I wish I had my best game coming in here, then you give yourself a chance, but I was able to hang in there. Solid week, nothing special, but there's something to build on for next season.”
