Séamus Power had somewhat of a rollercoaster round at the Riviera Country Club, entering the clubhouse at -1 on day one of the Genesis Invitational.

The world number 46 is competing against all of the world’s top ten golfers this week, with Chile’s Joaquin Niemann posting an early three-shot advantage with an 8 under-par 63.

Power got his tournament off to a flier, with a birdie at the short opening par 5, as he slotted into T4 on the leaderboard.

The front nine was slow and steady with a raft of well-taken pars, particularly a fantastic save at the eighth hole where the Touraneena man chipped in.

The round began to unravel somewhat at the tenth, going from bunker to bunker to finish the par 4 in six shots and move to +1.

In true Séamus Power fashion, he eagled the next hole out of nowhere to win those two shots back at the 11th, before holing a fantastic 50-foot putt at the twelfth to move to -2.

All of that promise was fast undone on the holes which followed, with bogeys at 13 and 14.

Then, to keep up with the rollercoaster theme - the West Waterford man went and chipped in for a birdie at the fifteenth.

The round concluded with three pars as Séamus went to the clubhouse with one under. Rory McIlroy carded a -2 69.

Power is back out at the Riviera at 2.48pm in the company of C.T Pan and Kevin Tway.
