A well-stocked field of the world's best golfers head to Hawaii this evening to raise the curtain on the 2023 PGA Tour season.

The strength and depth is thanks to the qualification requirement for the event being a win on tour last year with 29 marquee players teeing it up at the Plantation Course in Kapalua.

Waterford's Seamus Power is in the field owing to his win at the Bermuda Championship last October - his second win on the PGA Tour. This evening he plays with the Canadian Mackenzie Hughes who claimed the Sanderson Farms Championship in the same month.

The last time he was in Hawaii, Seamus cracked the world's top 50 with a third-place finish at the Sony Open, while when he was last at the Tournament Champions he earned a T15 place to end his week.

It's been over a month since we've last seen Power in action when he lined out at the RSM Classic to take a share of fifth where he was just four shots off the lead. With another big event coming up in a week's time at the Hero Cup, Power will be hoping to dust off the cobwebs in Hawaii this weekend.

Power has been telling the media that he's hoping for some wind to throw the cat amongst the pigeons this weekend as last time in Lahaina the conditions were very soft and scoring went through the roof after the first two rounds.

It's not the toughest course any of these players are likely to face this year but if the wind picks up like the Waterford man is hoping then it might throw a few curve balls at the world's best.
