Touraneena man Seamus Power is in action later this evening on the PGA Tour - as he contests the Shriner's Childrens Open.

The 34-year-old had a brilliant opening round, hitting six birdies as he carded a 66.

He got his day off to a good start at the par five 13th, with a great chip from 25 feet leaving him just 3 feet from an opening birdie, for which he duly obliged.

Having started on the back 9, a brilliant drive at the 15th handed Seamus a chance for an eagle. He missed that putt but it was enough to give him the opportunity to birdie the hole and move to -2 through six holes.

That was the first of back-to-back birdies as a good lay-up at 16 allowed the Barbasol Championship winner to land 7 and a half feet from the pin and he closed the hole in style.

One of those shots was soon dropped as he settled for a tap-in bogey at the 17th, finishing -2 for the front nine.

Power picked up where he left off on the birdie front on his back 9, hitting two on the spin at the first and second to move up to -4 through 11 holes.

A four feet birdie at the fourth saw Power move within two shots of the then leader, and he hit a closing birdie at the ninth to close his round at 66 on the par 71 at TPC Summerlin.

Power's playing partner, Sung Kang, leads the field at present.

He carded a stunning ten under opening round as he leads the field by two, with Power currently T17 going into day two of four.

The West Waterford man tees off at 8.57pm Irish time tonight - 12.57pm locally in Nevada.

He heads out with the field leader, Kang and nine-time tour winner and four-time Ryder Cup star, Matt Kuchar.
