New Waterford senior hurling manager Peter Queally says he's honoured to take up the role.
Queally, who has previously served as a selector to the Deise, was ratified on a two-year-term on Friday.
A former Waterford hurler himself, Peter Queally has previously managed Passage, Roanmore and Abbeyside.
He told WLR of his pride in becoming the manager of his home county.
"I had a lot of emotions over the weekend. Tiredness was the main one, to be honest with you - but the other one was pride. I'm very proud of it. I suppose I kind of put myself out there previously when I was trying to become the Waterford Senior Hurling Manager. This time it became a lot more cuter and behind the scenes and I did a lot of work and had a lot of things going for me this time, with the fact that I'd been in with Davy."
Queally says continuity is the most important thing going forward as the management team wish to build on the progress made in recent seasons by their predecessors.
"It's the word that I used in my interview process - the importance of continuity. We made progress in the last couple of years. It would have been a pity to undo a lot of the stuff that we did and a lot of the things that were introduced. We saw a bit of improvement at the summer there, we were so close to coming out of Munster, getting that monkey off the back."
The Ballydurn man believes that there will be a real advantage to knowing what talent is at their disposal as opposed to coming in blind.
"It isn't going to be a case of me going to every club game and seeing what extra talent is there. We more or less know what's there, so that's a big advantage to us. We need to make the most of the players that we have now and really drive this home and try and get us over the line. It's one step at a time."
