Rathgormack trainer Pat Flynn is closing in on the 800 winner mark.
The 797th trip into the winning enclosure for the renowned trainer came at Tramore on Sunday when Bite That scored at odds of 6/1 in the two mile hurdle at 2.15.
Speaking to Racing TV afterward, Pat spoke of his delight with the win and noted that the yard was now closing in on 800 and counting.
“It is nice to be back in the winners enclosure here. Three more winners to go up now to 800 winners, so - we’ve taken our time to get there, but three more now and we’ll head on to the thousand then hopefully.”
The most famous of Flynn’s crop down the decades was undoubtedly Montelado, who landed the National Hunt Flat at Cheltenham in 1992 before following that up with an amazing victory in the 1993 Supreme Novices Hurdle with Charlie Swan on board.
The journey hasn’t been an easy one and plenty of hard work has gone into it, but Pat has paid tribute to everyone who was involved along the way.
“It’s been a long old road. I’d like to thank everybody that’s been involved along the way that helped us. Thanks to all of the great owners that we have at the moment. They’re all very nice people. We’re looking forward to the year ahead.”
