Former Waterford FC striker Louis Britton has taken to social media to share abuse which was directed towards him following Monday night’s Munster derby between Waterford and Cork City at Turner’s Cross.
Britton controversially made the switch from the RSC to Leeside mid-season, a move that didn’t go down well with some members of the Blues support.
The 21-year-old came on as a substitute in the game and was jeered by the away support as he missed a late chance to give Cork all three points in what turned out to be a 0-0 draw at the finish.
Speaking in the aftermath of Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen revealing he had received 400 abusive messages having been involved in an incident where Liverpool’s Darwin Nuñez was sent off in a Premier League match - Britton took to Instagram to share his own experience.
Sharing screenshots of messages sent to him following the match, Louis Britton highlighted how people had wished a career ending injury on him, while also referring to him as a British ‘b*****d’ - while a voice note also warned Britton for his safety should he ever step foot in Waterford, threatening that the Englishman would ‘have his head smashed in’, while there was also threats that the former Bristol City man would ‘have his throat slit’.
The abuse has been condemned by many.
Waterford FC have been contacted for comment on the matter.
