Former Waterford goalkeeper Clinton Hennessy will be on the sideline with Antrim in Fraher Field on Sunday.
The Ardmore man moved to the glens in 2015 and has been part of Darren Gleeson's set-up since 2021. "I came in first as a goalkeeping coach. I've been a selector for the last two years. It wasn't a thing I was expecting to do but when you get asked, it's an opportunity to be involved with a county team, it's hard to turn down. I've loved it from the start. Really enjoyable. It's tough going with time and you're not winning as often as you would with a county like Waterford. It's very enjoyable; they're great lads to work with. It's nice to be part of it."
Hennessy won two Munster medals and a league title during his time between the posts for the Déise. "It will be strange. It's not a comfortable feeling to try and beat your own county."
All the family will make the trip to Dungarvan this weekend. His children have yet to decide which colours to wear. "We're trying to convince them to wear the Antrim ones this year! They wore the Waterford ones in Corrigan Park last year so we're trying to convince them that Antrim won't have much support but I'm not sure that's going to work!"
After suffering defeats to Kilkenny and Dublin, he is hoping that the Saffrons can pick up their first win of the league campaign. "We need two points. Dublin was an opportunity. We dropped nine balls into the keeper's hands which is criminal stuff at the inter county level. We performed for fifteen or twenty minutes in that game which isn't enough."
