Cyril Farrell believes that the Munster championship will be Davy Fitzgerald's top priority this year.
"The hurling world knows that last year's championship wasn't a true reflection of Waterford. They just didn't do themselves justice. Whatever the reason was, they were flat which can happen. Knowing Davy, he will be trying to win every match but he won't be showing his full cards. It's the championship that they will be judged on. That's what Waterford want to do well in, the championship rather than the league."
Jamie Barron has got two full league games under his belt after missing large parts of 2022 through injury. "He's picked number ten but he's playing out the middle and he's as lively as a bee. Not alone is it a boost to Waterford but it's a boost to hurling in general. He is one of the top players, it's great to have him back."
Farrell expects the Déise to pick up their second win of the campaign against Antrim this weekend. "They'll be short a good few from the championship team but, at this level, if you're carrying a lad on a panel, he should be able to hold his own. Otherwise, he shouldn't be on the panel."
Waterford versus Antrim in Round 3 of the NHL will be the George Corbett Skoda Big Match on Sunday. Join Kieran O'Connor and Michael Ryan live from Fraher Field at 12.45.
