Kilkenny hurling boss Brian Cody has called for the Maor Foirne to be restored next year.

The role was disbanded in 2021 after a successful motion at Congress. Cody, who is preparing for his 17th All Ireland final against Limerick on July 17, has found it extremely difficult to communicate with his players in a packed Croke Park.

"It's impossible", he told WLR Sport. "It just can't happen. It's absolutely impossible. I think it was a terrible thing to change to be honest about it. It was changed because certain Maor Foirne abused it. It's very easy to deal with that, there are punishments for that. It's a huge loss. I'd say any manager would say the same thing. It's a huge loss to the matchday situation."

He would like to see the Maor Foirne return for 2023. "For sure, no doubt about that."
