Anna Dawson will be the sole local competitor in the Irish Girls’ Close Championship that gets underway at Tramore Golf Club tomorrow (Wed).

Dawson will tee off in her opening round at 8.10am and plays with Rebekah Gardner of Clandeboye and Caitlin Shippam of Ballykisteen.

There are two rounds of strokeplay tomorrow with the leading 16 players advancing to the match play stages on Thursday.

In all, 52 players are entered for the event, including 17-year-old Beth Coulter of Kirkistown Castle, who was a member of the Irish team at the European Championships last week and who was defeated in the final of the Irish Women’s Close championship last month.

Also playing is 13-year-old sensation Olivia Costello of Roscommon who reached the semi-final of the Irish Women’s close.
