Waterford centre back Tadhg De Burca will miss the rest of the 2023 championship after he suffered an achilles injury during the first half of Sunday's loss to Limerick. The two-time All Star was carried off the field after 23 minutes.
"I'm absolutely gutted," Déise boss Davy Fitzgerald told reporters afterwards. "I'd say he's gone for the rest of the season. It looks like his achilles is gone. I can tell you lads, Tadhg De Burca last September went on a rehab programme for four to five months, last September, October, November, December and into January. If you saw the work that he did to get himself right; I'm absolutely sick for him. He's an absolutely incredible young man, a great team player, a great hurler and he's gone for the rest of the year. That's a massive loss to us, a massive loss. In fairness to the lads, they played their hearts out even after he went off today."
