Waterford defender Caoimhe McGrath believes that there are exciting times ahead with the development of a ladies football facility in Ballinroad.
"I'm so jealous of the young girls coming through and starting at that level. I remember the two euros to training, the pan loaf of bread and the ham for the sandwiches afterwards. The facilities that are going to be available for those girls coming through, it's phenomenal. It will be very exciting to see where things go in the next few years."
She has committed to the Déise football squad this season after juggling both codes in recent years. "Due to the training demands, training clashes and match clashes, I made the decision just to focus on the football this year."
It was a difficult balancing act. "I was able for the physical demands of it. I often found it was quite mentally challenging to juggle two matches in one weekend or if there were clashes to communicate between the two and decide which one I was going to play. That was the most frustrating side of it. I was constantly on the go, there was less downtime. It's something that I wouldn't rule out for future seasons, it was just the nature of this season that I decide to focus on the football."
She is delighted to see dead ball ace Maria Delahunty back on board. "Without a doubt, one of the best. I've seen a good few now, especially in recent years, it seems to be becoming more common. She's just brilliant. Her accuracy and her consistency and she has slotted right back in."
Waterford start their Lidl National League Division 1 campaign away to Dublin on Sunday at 2 o'clock in Parnell Park.
The Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) and sponsors Lidl Ireland have announced that 50 games in the 2021 Lidl Ladies National Football Leagues will be streamed live and available to view for free.
Lidl Ireland said they have invested in the LGFA’s plans to ensure that each and every game in the 2021 Lidl National Leagues can be viewed by fans whether they are at home or on the go.
TG4 have already committed to showing ten live games – including the four Divisional Finals – and now the LGFA and Lidl can reveal that all other games in the competition will be covered, ensuring that viewers can watch the 60 games in the 2021 Lidl National Leagues free of charge.
