Former Limerick All Star Ollie Moran says that Déise boss Paraic Fanning gave him his big break in hurling at WIT. The versatile Ahane player won two Fitzgibbon Cups during his time in Waterford.
"He had an massive influence. I went down there playing in goals as an innocent eighteen year old. Probably because there was so many goalies, he told me 'if you're going to play, you've to play outfield'. He gave me my chance outfield. He was over the Freshers team and we went on to win a Munster Freshers and an All Ireland Freshers. I ended up playing Fitzgibbon and we were beaten by UL in the final in my first year down there when Freshers could play. That was my kickstart into hurling at that level. Personally, I owe Paraic an awful lot."
