The Waterford camogie team will take on Tipperary in a crucial All Ireland championship clash at FBD Semple Stadium on Sunday.
The Premier County have defeated the Déise in the last four seasons. "We haven't beaten them in championship hurling," Beth Carton told WLR Sport. "We've gone close at times but we still haven't."
The two-time All Star is familiar with many of the Tipperary players from her time with UL. " I know them inside out from playing with them and playing against them! The likes of Karen Kennedy, Ereena Fryday, Cait Devane. They have serious players. We are well used to each other. We seem to draw each other every year in championship and in Munster!"
After an opening round loss to Dublin, Waterford picked up their first win of the campaign against Wexford last Saturday. "It's down to that group of girls. We had a tough week. We just knew we had to put the head down. Please god, we're after pulling it back."
Sunday's game will act as the curtain raiser to the sell-out Munster hurling final between Clare and Limerick. This will be Carton's second appearance in Thurles. "We played Galway there three years ago. That's the only time at adult level. It's a phenomenal stadium. It is lovely but we're just focussed on our performance and we'll try to get one against Tipp." Tickets are in short supply. "We'll get the parents there anyway!"
Away from the camogie field, Carton teaches PE, Geography and Maths at the Presentation Secondary School in Waterford. "There's something new every day, it's never the same. I'm just helping any way I can with the next generation, whether it's in the classroom or in the extra curricular. You get to see young girls grow up as they go through the years."
