The SETU Arena went berserk as De La Salle were crowned Waterford Senior Camogie Champions for the first time. The Gracedieu side fought back from five points down against great rivals Gailltir to spark emotional scenes at the final whistle (1-12 to 1-10).
A Player of the Match performance from centre back Keeley Corbett Barry inspired the Gracedieu side to a historic victory. A sensational solo point from the number six, like Ciaran Carey's one for Limerick in 1996, lifted the roof and put her team in front with nine minutes left.
Maggie Gostl pulled to the far corner of the net on 34 minutes after Beth Carton drove the ball in. Carton hit seven points while Abby Flynn struck three from play in the second half.
A goal from Alannah O'Sullivan on 29 minutes gave Gailltir a 1-7 to 0-5 half time advantage. Anne Corcoran drove through to the centre and offloaded to O'Sullivan who batted home from close range. Corcoran and Ciara O'Sullivan got two points each. On the stroke of half time, De La Salle goalkeeper Brianna O'Regan put her body on the line to smother a shot from Orlaith Walsh.
