Kevin Moran will set out on his sixteenth inter county season for the Waterford hurlers on Sunday.
The De La Salle man has won two All Star awards, two Munster titles and a National League since his debut in 2006. The 34 year old has clocked up 136 appearances in league and championship and now stands as the longest serving hurler in the country.
Former Déise boss Derek McGrath isn’t surprised that Moran is back for more:
“I’d call it an iron will that he has, he’s like nothing I’ve known before. I was manager of the De La Salle Féile team in 1999, he was under 12 at that stage. I’ve been involved with him since he was 11 years of age, all the way through school, club and inter county.
"There’s one thing about Kevin that stands out: he’s never afraid to fail. Kevin could slip off into the sunset at any stage and be revered, and rightly so, in his club and in Waterford. First of all, he loves it and he has a passion for what he’s doing and he always want to improve himself. He has great qualities. He has a drive and a willingness to not worry about perception or people saying ‘Kevin is there 15 years, maybe it’s time.’
"Kevin was outstanding last year for Waterford in the championship and is an outstanding hurler in the local club championship so there’s no reason for him not to continue.”
