Ballygunner are one win away from booking their place back in the Munster club hurling final.

Daragh O' Sullivan's side take on Na Piarsaigh in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday for a rematch of last year's semi-final.

The last time they met, Na Piarsaigh romped into a five-point lead by the halftime break.

The Gunners held the Limerick champions to four points in the second half of play, shooting 1.11 in response with Patrick Fitzgerald raising the green flag.

Ballygunner went on to win that game by five and then claimed a second straight Munster title in the final with Ballyea.

In their most recent outing, the Gunners maintained a record in Munster that they began three years ago.

Their opening games of the Munster Championship for the past three seasons have seen them winning by 17 points on every occasion (Sarsfields, Kilruane MacDonaghs & Ballyea).

The manager, O'Sullivan, told WLR Sport that this game with Na Piarsaigh is "exciting for everyone." He added that they "are a serious team and we look forward to that challenge again."

Speaking to the media after the Sarsfields win in Walsh Park, O'Sullivan accepted that last year's meeting was close to intercounty standard.

"It was serious. In the first half, they put us to the sword and then we dug in and took the brunt of it in the second half. I said the same thing last year, it's two juggernauts coming against each other, and that's something to be excited about."

While they may have cruised through the opening fixture each time, the semi-final has proved more difficult. That win over Na Piarsaigh last year (five-point difference) was preceded by another five-point in 2021 where they beat Loughmore-Castleiney in torrid conditions at Fraher Field.

Whoever wins on Sunday will likely be marked down as favorites for the provincial title - with Kiladangan (Tipperary) and Clonlara (Clare) on the other side of the draw.

Na Piarsaigh came through a grueling Limerick final, beating a Patrickswell side littered with intercounty talent and will want to avenge their loss from last season having held a significant advantage at the halftime break.
