League of Ireland Director Fran Gavin says the FAI do not expect Waterford FC to have difficulties with the process of securing a licence to compete in European football.
They need to receive special dispensation because they have been in existence for less than three seasons. The Irish Independent reports that Derry City's new trading company were not accepted in 2012.
Fran Gavin says there is confidence that Waterford will receive the green light as new owner Lee Power cleared some debts that were racked up by the old Waterford United.
However, he said there remains a lingering issue with former United boss Roddy Collins that has gone through the Labour Relations Commission but they don't see any issues that would prohibit
Waterford FC from getting a licence.
The league of Ireland Director said Waterford will go through the process that Derry went through with Uefa, where they have to make a case for licensing because they are a new entity there.
