Nine Limerick All Ireland winners feature on Derek McGrath's All Star hurling team for 2022. His fifteen also includes three from Kilkenny, two from Galway and Clare's Tony Kelly.

The former Waterford boss went for Will O'Donoghue from Limerick at midfield of Clare's David Fitzgerald. "I looked at his tackle count for the All Ireland final and he was highest tackler in the middle third. When Declan Hannon's man comes deep down the field, Declan Hannon mans the D and hands over responsibility for his man to Will O'Donoghue. He allows Declan Hannon to sweep and dictate the play. He's the best chaser on the Limerick team; he's deceptively quick. I remember him chasing both Jamie Barron and Shane Bennett, two rockets, in an All Ireland semi final."

Kilkenny ace TJ Reid was an automatic pick in attack. "TJ is a beast in the air and has lovely soft hands as well. He is very calm. For a fella that has so much expectation on him, I like his calmness."

Clare talisman Tony Kelly makes the cut at number fifteen. "His Munster final performance and his performance down in Ennis against Limerick shouldn't be forgotten when the conversation takes place."
