Cork 1.20 - 0.06 Waterford
Waterford missed out on picking up a first win under Paul Shankey on Sunday, losing to Cork in the McGrath Cup.
The Rebels took the spoils 1.20 to 0.06 in Mallow, with Waterford kicking just two second-half points to Cork's 1.14.
It marks back-to-back losses for Paul Shankey who is still getting his feet under the table having been appointed to the role in November.
Waterford held tight with the Rebels for the first half and were within 2 points at the break, six points to four. Niall McSweeney (f), Willie Beresford, Michael O'Brien and Stephen Curry all raised white flags in that opening period.
Cork found the back of the net moments after returning from the changing rooms and would go on to steamroll the Déise with fourteen more scores before the full-time whistle. Michael O'Brien and Stephen Curry were on the mark in the second half, kicking Waterford's two points.
Next up for Shankey and the footballers will be their opening game in Division Four of the National Football League when they host Leitrim in Fraher Field on Sunday, January 28th.
Scorers for Waterford: Niall McSweeney (f), Willie Beresford 0.1, Michael O'Brien o.2, Stephen Curry 0.2.
