De La Salle suffer Munster heartbreak after extra time

For the second year in a row, De La Salle and Drom & Inch went toe to toe in the Munster Club Camogie semi-finals, with extra time needed to separate the sides for the second consecutive year.

Salle stuttered and stalled in the first half of play, failing to register a score in the half hour.

Drom and Inch, buoyed by their home support streaked into the lead in the early stages, holding a 7 points to no score advantage with 15 minutes played.

The De La Salle scoring engine failed to get up and running by the break, with the home side holding a nine-point to no-score lead at the break.

In the second half, Waterford minor Maggie Gostl raised the first white flag for the Waterford Champions, and then the 2023 Camogie Player of the Year kicked into gear.

Beth Carton shot into action, sending a free between the sticks for her first score of the game. She followed that with five unanswered points (two frees) to narrow the gap to four.

Abby Flynn joined in on the scoring to make it a one-score game with less than 10 minutes to go.

Cometh the hour cometh the woman and as the minutes dwindled away, it was again Carton who made the difference.

Having been double-marked all game, the four-time All-Star found herself loose in the Drom square, taking a pass and firing it to the back of the net to make it a level game.

Carton added her 6th point to squeak Salle ahead for the first time in the contest, but they were once again pegged back by Drom who leveled it to send the game to extra time, 0.11 to 1.08.

In the additional period, Carton added another three points, but two more Drom points were compounded by an Eimear McGrath goal to send the defending champions 2 points clear with seconds remaining.

Try as they might, Conor O'Toole's side could not find the goal they needed to steal back the advantage and the game came to and end with Salle once again bowing out of the Munster club at the semi-final stage, with Drom and Inch once again prevailing.

Full-Time Score Drom and Inch 1.13 - 1.11 De La Salle.

DLS scorers: Beth Carton 1.09, Abby Flynn, 0.1, Maggie Gostl 0.1.
