It is ultimately news that was expected by most, but it was nonetheless confirmed on Wednesday evening that Ronan Coughlan has made the switch to England where he joins Waterford FC's sister club Fleetwood Town.

Coughlan was the main goal-getter for the Blues in 2023, finding the net 37 times in all competitions. He joins Fleetwood where fellow former Blues' Phoenix Patterson and Junior Quitirna are already part of the changing room.

Coughlan put pen to paper on an 18-month deal that is still subject to international clearance and becomes the first signing of new Fleetwood boss Charlie Adam.

Speaking to the club's in-house media, Coughlan said "When you score goals at any level there's always going to be interest."

He added "Fleetwood had always shown a keen interest in me early on and they know so much about me - with the links with Waterford of course - so I think for me personally, just to be able to continue on and get to know people here and familiar faces that I've played with. Hoping to hit the ground running now."
