Waterford FC make the trip to Turner's Cross this evening to take on Cork City in a crunch Munster derby at the top end of the League of Ireland First Division.

The Blues go into the game on a high having defeated second-placed Galway United 2-1 at the RSC on Friday night - a result which leaves them just six points behind the Westerners whilst also holding the advantage of a game in hand.

Cork meanwhile lost their first game of their last 24 outings when going down 2-0 at the hands of Treaty United three days ago.

Waterford FC boss Danny Searle says his team are in a good place as they make their final preparations heading to Leeside.

"This is a young group who are thriving at the minute. I'm not an idiot. There will be some lows. We all want to go to the end of the season having won every game - because that would probably mean that we've won the cup and got promoted. We know that we are going to hit a low. A wall will come at some point. That is where the character building that we've been doing comes into play."

The mantra for the Blues in the past few weeks has been a simple one - keep the top two honest, and be there to capitalise should any of them slip up.

"The message in the dressing room has been, keep Cork and Galway honest. Keep them honest. Win the games that we need to win, keep putting in performances. If there are slip ups, if there are mistakes from our opposition, we need to be ready to pounce. That's all I can ask for from the lads."

Danny Searle is adamant that its not as big a game for his team as it is for the hosts - and he insists that all of the pressure at Turners Cross will be on the league leaders.

"Pressure is on Cork. From the outside looking in - they wouldn't consider us as a contender in the title race, so the pressure is on Cork. They've got to bounce back from a defeat. They want to get a win in to try and put space between themselves and Galway - but we will go there and do what we do best - which is spoil the party."

Kick off at Turners Cross is at 7.45.
