Cork City 2

Cork City took a step closer to the League of Ireland First Division title with a controlled performance that saw them take all three points from the RSC.

However, it was the referee Alan Patchell who took centre stage - with a red card decision and a penalty call which left the majority of the 3,400 people present totally perplexed.

Cork took the lead on 56 minutes when Cian Murphy was on hand to turn home the ball from a short corner.

Then, two minutes later - Waterford were reduced to ten men when Tunmise Sobowale was red-carded for what looked like an innocuous coming together with Aaron Bolger.

Waterford responded well with Wassim Aouchria hitting the crossbar with a header from Phoenix Patterson's corner.

It was another Patterson corner on 90 minutes that brought an equaliser - the Spaniard, debutant Raul Uche powering his header past David Harrington.

However, there was a final twist four minutes into injury time when Ali Gilchrist went to ground inside the Waterford penalty area as the Blues prepared to defend a free-kick.

Ruairi Keating made no mistake with a penalty kick to secure the win for the Leesiders, with Blues boss Danny Searle sent off for voicing his frustration with the officials.
