Waterfords Kelyn Cassidy has guaranteed himself a medal at the Golden Belt Nicolae Linca Tournament in Romania.

The Ballybeg boxer met Romanian Catalin Florin Serban in the Quarter Finals, Serban had to take a standing count in the opening seconds of the first round as the Saviours Crystals man went on to secure a unanimous decision victory and in so doing - progressed through to the final four where he will pick up at least a bronze medal.

Cassidy was one of four wins for Team Ireland on Day 2 of the Tournament as Gráinne Walsh beat Hungary’s Vivien Boda, Adam Hession was a clear winner in his fight against Romania’s Laurentiu Mihai Vaduva and Aidan Walsh made his return to the ring against Uzbekistan’s Turgunboev Kromronbek; coming away with a split decision win.
