Waterford boxer Kelyn Cassidy steps back in the ring this afternoon for the round of 16 at the European Games.
The Ballybeg native cruised to victory in his opening bout, beating Mindaugas Gedminas in the 80kg weight class.
The judges had it as a 5-0 clean sweep for Cassidy, who now finds himself within four fights of a gold medal at the games in Poland.
While a medal around his neck would be a brilliant way to cap off his week, the real reward could come much sooner. Olympic Qualification is at stake here.
Four 80kg boxers will qualify for the Paris games from this tournament, those will be the winners of the quarter-finals.
If Cassidy can secure a place in the semi's, his place on the plane to France next summer will be guaranteed and can not be taken from him.
The next step in that journey will be to dispatch Welshman Taylor Bevan. He steps into the squared circle for the afternoon session in Poland.
6 #TeamIreland boxers are in #EG2023 last 16 action on Monday.
