Waterford FC have confirmed that club captain Kilian Cantwell will stay at the club for 2023.
The Kilkenny native has put pen to paper having been a crucial cog in the Danny Searle machine last season. At 27 years old Cantwell returned to the club were he had once played for the U19 side in the early days of his career.
He made 24 appearances in the league in 2022, leading up to the promotion playoff run which ultimately ended in defeat to UCD at Richmond Park.
Speaking to Waterford FC.ie Cantwell said he was delighted to be signed up for another year, saying “Our fans last year were excellent; it was brilliant to play in front of them week in and week out and I know they will be behind us again this coming season. Waterford FC is a massive club and it is heading in the right direction. There are some really good people working behind the scenes and I can’t wait to be a part of it again next season.”
Cantwell's re-signing comes just two weeks after the first new blood for 2023.
Thomas Oluwa is the newest addition to the club and Searle will be hoping that he can carry his goal-scoring form forward for Waterford. Oluwa scored 11 goals for Athlone Town last season having already spent time at Shamrock Rovers, Bohemians and Galway.
The manager told WaterfordFC.ie he was "delighted that Thomas has signed for the club. He showed some real quality last season and is a welcome addition to our side. He is at a good age and has a lot of potential, which we are really confident will enhance our attacking options next season.
