Waterford FC 2 -1 Galway

Ray Scott reports

Waterford fell behind after twelve minutes when Ed McCarthy floated a cross from the left. It was flicked on by Rob Manley for Stephen Walsh to slot home from inside the six-yard box.

The lead lasted just seven minutes when Phoenix Patterson took a short corner to Junior Quitirna who slipped the ball to Roland Idowu and he blasted home from close range.

Waterford did have a great opportunity to take the lead on thirty seven minutes when Sobowale, Junior and Patterson combined and when Patterson fired a cross the goal Wassim Aouachria was just a yard away from slotting home.

Galway were reduced to ten men on sixty five minutes when Conor McCormack brought down Aouachria inside the box but Patterson blasted the penalty over the bar.

However when Charlie Lyons brought down Aouachria a second time seven minutes from the end, Junior made no mistake to put the Blues ahead and they held on for a deserved three points in what was the best game at the RSC this season.
