Blues expected to "mix it up," for Senior Cup Final.

Turners Cross hosts the showpiece tie in Munster Senior Soccer on Monday night with the Senior Cup up for grabs.

Waterford FC take on Kerry FC in the decider with the first-division side looking to spring a surprise on the Blues.

It marks a first Senior Cup Final appearance for the Blues since 2013 when they beat Avondale in the decider.

Sixteen previous cups sit in the cabinet at the RSC.

Former club Captain John Frost say the game comes at a good time for the Blues as they return from the mid-season break.

"When you're coming out of a break, even though it's only a week off for players to try get some rest in, you can come back a bit rusty."

Selection will be the key talking point ahead of kick-off with speculation as to whether Keith Long will pick an experienced or experimental side.

In their last outing against Rockmount, plenty of the U19s were used and the smart money would tell you that with a trip to Dundalk on the horizon on Friday night, the head coach will likely box clever and select a team with a blend of youth and experience to get the job done.

"I think he'll mix it up," says Frost. "If you were down near the bottom of the league and you needed some positivity and momentum you might put a strong team out to go win it and try to get people off your back, but with us being in a healthy position, I think Keith will mix and match it."

The Blues league standing has them in rude health as the second half of the season rolls around. Few would have expected them to sit fourth at the halfway point but now a genuine chance at European qualification lies at their feet.

With bigger fish to fry down the track, Frost worries that games like the cup final pose a risk to crucial players in the squad.

"What you don't want to do is go into a game like that and you get one of your best players inured, and you might come away with a loss and it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth, so the situation has to be managed."

Kerry currently sit second-bottom in the first division with 18 points from a possible 63, but they have won three of their last five, albeit all those results came at home.

Worryingly for the Kingdom, they are yet to win on the road, with a draw being their best away result.

WLR will bring you live commentary of the game on Monday night from 7.15 pm thanks to McConnell's Toyota Waterford.
