In his post he says a brief text conversation with the owner and a difference of opinion "I have surprisingly been given a 1-week suspension meaning I will no longer be able to manage the team on Friday night in a big play off game!"

"Anyone who knows me knows I am a man of principles and will stick to them."

The Blues will face their first relegation/playoff since 2007 when they face UCD  at Richmond Park on Friday night.

Bircham, took over at the RSC in May and signed a new two-year contract in August until the end of the 2023 season.

He said he has "the utmost confidence in the players and staff to finish off this amazing journey with the win they so richly deserve after the mammoth effort and professionalism they have applied".

"Lastly to the fans for the massive part they have played in the team's turnaround please don't underestimate the role you have played.

"Let's finish off the great escape. Come on the Blues!"

The SSE Airtricity League Promotion/Relegation Play-Off Final between Waterford FC and UCD AFC will take place in Richmond Park, Dublin on Friday November 26th at 7.45pm. WLR will broadcast the game LIVE with commentary by Matt Keane and Ray Scott, thanks to McConnell's Toyota Waterford.
